Jesus’ Son Lyrics

[Intro]
(woman) "Unu aneddu 'e oro"

(Man) "Custos contos no ant printzipiu e mai de aere fine
Sempere, semus istados"

[Verse 1]
Stand, stand to attention
The moment's passed you by
Now is the rest of your life
Dare, dare I to mention
Your laughter makes me cry
A speck of dust in my eye

[Chorus]
And I am unafraid and blissful
Here I come
I am unashamed at getting nothing done
I'm a cavalcade that tumbles one by one
But I'm okay, just like Jesus' Son

[Verse 2]
Bone, bone of contention
I've lost the count of times
I've seen you fucking goodbye
So good, orderly direction
To pull you from the mire
Your universe on fire
[Chorus]
And I am unafraid and blissful
Here I come
I am unashamed at getting nothing done
I'm a cavalcade that tumbles one by one
But I'm okay, just like Jesus' Son

And I am unafraid and blissful
Here I come
I am unashamed at getting nothing done
I'm a cavalcade that tumbles one by one
But I'm okay, just like Jesus' Son
I'm okay, just like Jesus' Son
I'm okay, just like Jesus' Son
I'm okay, just like Jesus' Son

About

Genius Annotation

Placebo’s first single since “A Million Little Pieces” in June 2014, it’s a soaring anthem featuring their trademark rising synths, and a more upbeat lyrical treatment, something they’ve pursued since 2009’s Battle For The Sun.

The video was shot in Sardinia, Italy, and Brian revealed more about the location and content during the making of video:

One day I found about this festival that took place in Sardinia called Duna Jam… I saw the location on Youtube, the scenery is just mind-blowing… This is possibly our most optimistic, life-affirming, positive, spiritual single ever. There isn’t a lot of darkness in this song, there’s a lot of light.

Former drummer Steve Forrest revealed on Twitter he performed backing vocals and drums on the track, meaning it was written and recorded between 2008 and 2014. He does not appear in the video.

What is the significance of the video?
Genius Answer

Shot in Sardinina, Italy, director Jon Connor said:

I’d always been interested and excited by the long cultural or Sardinia and certainly of Sardinian Carnival which is 3000 years old. And within that culture you have these Boe Masks, Ox beings, huge great big sheepskin suits and wooden masks, and I thought it was just a really interesting, worldly element to bring into the video as well as doing a performance video with Placebo on the beach. We’ve created this semi-dream-like, slightly surreal, very photographic world where we’re bringing out the culture we’re shooting in.

Who appears on the cover art?
Genius Answer

Brian’s son, Cody, who is 11 years old, is the child featured on the cover.

Is Brian religious?
Genius Answer

Brian was brought up in a strict, religious household. He claimed that at age 14, he took his life back from God, but religious imagery litters Placebo songs. In 2010 Brian said:

I have so much respect for any religion that isn’t my own.

His own religion being Christianity. He did reveal during the making of video that this was a very “spiritual” song.
